| LG Sees Opportunity in Motorola's Woes
It is pinning hopes on premium models such as "Viewty" while also trying to expand in fast-growing emerging markets. On the other hand, Motorola has been losing market share to rivals such as Nokia and Samsung Electronics after failing to come up with a strong successor to the Razr phone, its last blockbuster. Last month, the U.S. cell phone maker announced a strategic review that could lead to the separation of the loss-making mobile phone unit. Shares in LG Electronics, which also makes appliances and televisions, fell 0.3 percent to 94,100 won by 10:09 p.m. EST, in a wider market down 1.6 percent. LG's handset division represents more than 40 percent of its sales. .
ESPN Anchor Goes On Vulgar Anti-Jesus Rant at Celebrity Roast
In the past few decades, as political correctness has taken hold of virtually every industry, folks involved in sports and sportscasting that have made racist or sexist remarks on camera have typically been fired or forced to make public apologies. Jimmy "The Greek" Snyder's termination by CBS back in 1988 is a fine example, with the recent two-week suspension of Golf Channel anchor Kelly Tilghman being another. Yet, given what happened on an Atlantic City dais on January 11, where a high-profile ESPN anchor went on an alcohol-induced tirade which included a vulgar reference to Jesus Christ, it appears public antitheism is not politically incorrect. After all, until this moment, you probably hadn't heard about this incident, and the person involved apparently has not been publicly admonished for her behavior by her employer.

Dana Gardner's BriefingsDirect Latest Post | Last 10 Posts | Archives In the mind's eye, it's now Marissa versus Monkeyboy Posted in: Apple Microsoft Silicon Valley Wall Street Google Funny how the mind works. Sometimes it just makes associations whether you want it to or not. And now that I've read the feature article on Google's Marissa Mayer in San Francisco magazine, the images from that profile are etched into my mind whenever I think of Google, or even go to Google's gaggle of sites, services, and features. There is now continuity between Marissa, Google and me. These are actually quite pleasant, floating images of a lower Market Street aerie, with purple walls and the home-spun smell of vanilla-laced cupcakes (supported lovingly by pleated paper).
American Gangster (2-Disc Unrated Extended Edition)
"Academy Award winners Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe team with director Ridley Scott ('Gladiator') for an epic story as powerful as it is true. Armed with ruthless, street-wise tactics and a strict sense of honor, crime boss Frank Lucas (Washington) rules Harlem's chaotic drug underworld. When outcast cop Richie Roberts (Crowe) sets out to bring down Lucas's multi-million dollar empire, it plunges both men into a legendary confrontation." "American Gangster" is rated R for violence, pervasive drug content and language, nudity and sexuality. Mini-Review: I'm a fan of Ridley Scott, Russell Crowe, and Denzel Washington, so I was interested in seeing "American Gangster." After watching it, I found the film to be entertaining, but it was like a marathon watching it. I viewed the Unrated Extended Version which was about 3 hours long.

Fast-Changing Technologies Make Producing and Publishing Videos Harder ...
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Advances in technology have enabled consumers to create more interesting and sophisticated videos to share with friends and family, yet ironically, technology has caused as much confusion and frustration as opportunities for the average PC user. More often than not, only sophisticated videophiles are able to take advantage of anything more than the most basic features. According to certified technical support experts from SupportSpace, an online service dedicated to providing consumers with a new standard of tech support, many consumers lack the knowledge about the operation of their equipment, the software that comes with their computer, and video formats, making publishing and sharing video frustrating and time confusing. Basic knowledge and a few simple steps can help users avoid the common mistakes that keep them from capturing and sharing their memories.
Norwegian broadcaster: P2P experiment "extremely positive"
Solheim said in an interview (republished on NRK's blog in English) that the experience will likely "clear the rights for this kind of distribution of more content." Since the experiment's inception just over a month ago, Nordkalotten 365 has been downloaded over 90,000 times—shocking to NRK, since Norway is a small country of only 4.6 million. Not only that, but the people downloading have been good torrenters too. The files have had ratios close to 95 percent, which Solheim said saved license fee payers 95 percent of all distribution costs. "People are happily seeding the files," Solheim said. There was also less resistance to the project than he thought, once the network was able to get the message across that BitTorrent isn't "illegal." Solheim said that the managers of Nordkalotten 365 were surprisingly open to the idea, even composing their own music to avoid dealing with licensing fees.
